Distribution Groups

Ontario Library Service maintains a number of email distribution groups open to all members of the Ontario Public Library community:

  • LS-OLSLIBS: A general discussion group open to all staff working in all roles in Ontario’s public libraries.
  • LS-INFOUSER: A special interest discussion group for public library staff to discuss concerns, issues, procedures, policies, etc. around interlibrary loan in Ontario.
  • LS-Board Assemblies: A discussion group for all Board Assembly Members and other interested board members to share comments, questions and best practices about governance and board topics.
  • LS-Community Outreach Network: A special interest discussion group for library staff working in community outreach and engagement related roles in their libraries. The Community Outreach Network has an internal group structure which is client driven, as such the group’s elected chairs will be notified of new memberships for networking and communication purposes.
  • LS-HRNOL: A resource network that provides a confidential forum to exchange information and discuss broad human resources issues and trends in the Ontario Public Library community. Networking includes both the distribution group email as well as up to 3 membership meetings per year that may include professional consultant-led presentations on current HR topics.  The meetings are currently conducted virtually.  There is an annual membership fee per library system (a library system may have multiple members as part of that membership fee), which goes towards the cost of the meetings or professional opinions sought by the group.

    Membership is restricted to HR professionals working directly for public libraries and to Library management (ie., CEOs) in other functions who have responsibility to oversee the HR function but do not have HR as their only areas of responsibility. Membership approval is overseen by HRNOL’s elected executive committee.

    Please submit your request to join the group directly to the HRNOL Executive:  a.reid@kinglibrary.ca and mfrenette@whitbylibrary.ca.  Your request will be reviewed to ensure your participation meets membership guidelines and to initiate membership fee billing if your library system is not already a member.
