Granting Tips

  • Call the funder to ask if your project or organization is eligible, whether the First Nation has an active application or outstanding reports, and if the First Nation can submit more than one application.
  • Consult with First Nation management to ask if another department is applying for the same grant.
  • Read the funder’s Strategic Plan, Mission, Mandate, and Vision.
  • Find and outline synergies between your library and the funding agency’s goals and objectives.
  • In some cases, partnering with other organizations makes for a stronger application.
  • Most agencies prioritize applications with a large and diverse audience.
  • Use “buzzwords” like revitalization and collaboration.
  • Request support letters from partners and community supporters.
