Starting Library Service in Your Community

Establishing an On‑Reserve Public Library

All First Nation Band Councils in Ontario can apply for provincial public library funding to support an on‑reserve public library. This process supports communities that want to start a First Nation public library and offer access to books, technology, and programs close to home.

Contracting for Library Service

A Band Council may also choose to partner with a nearby municipal, union, or county public library instead of operating its own library. This is often referred to as a contract for library service. The agreement outlines the services provided, associated costs, and how community members can access programs and resources.
